The biggest deal of your life shouldn't run on blind trust.
When you sell the business you spent twenty years building — or buy the one you'll spend the next twenty running — you'll probably hire a business broker. And until now, you'd choose that broker almost entirely on their own word: their website, their listing pitch, the two references they picked for you.
Every other high-stakes choice has an accountability layer. Restaurants have reviews. Doctors have ratings. Contractors have report cards. Business brokerage — an industry that intermediates hundreds of thousands of transactions, many of them the largest of someone's life — has had almost nothing. The information asymmetry runs entirely one way, and the people it costs are owners and buyers who do this once.
The Broker Index exists to close that gap.
What we are
An independent directory and rating platform for M&A business brokers, built on reviews from the buyers and sellers who actually worked with them. Every broker is scored on six parameters — professionalism, transparency, consistency, collaboration, command of the deal, and quality of documentation — because "5 stars, great guy!" doesn't tell the next seller what they need to know, and "4.9 overall but 2.8 on transparency" does.
What we are not
No pay-to-play. Ever. Brokers cannot pay to be listed, pay to rank higher, pay to remove reviews, or pay to add stars. Rankings are computed by a published formula from member reviews — the same math for every broker on the site, whether they've never heard of us or wish we didn't exist. How that formula works, including its protections against fake and hostile reviews, is documented in full on our Methodology page.
Where the directory comes from
Broker listings are compiled from publicly available professional directory information — names, firms, locations, specialties, and contact details brokers have published about their own practices — and from listing requests submitted by our members. A listing is not an endorsement, and an unreviewed broker carries no score. If you're a broker and your information is out of date, or you'd like to be listed, use the Request a broker listing link on the home page.
For brokers
If you do right by your clients, this site is the best marketing you'll never pay for: a public, independently-scored track record. We want your side of the story too — brokers can request corrections to listing details, and disputed reviews go through the moderation process described in our methodology. What's not available, at any price, is a shortcut.
For buyers and sellers
Two asks. First: use the data — check any broker before you sign, and read our guides on what good looks like. Second: contribute to it. A five-minute review after your deal closes (or collapses) is the single most valuable thing you can do for the next owner standing where you stood. The industry gets more honest exactly as fast as its clients leave records.
